Telehealth FAQ
Telehealth FAQ
What is teletherapy?
Teletherapy is the delivery of professional social work services using secure, high-definition video and audio technology. It allows us to meet in real-time from the comfort and privacy of your own space.
Is teletherapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. In Maryland, teletherapy is held to the same high standards of practice and ethical care as in-person sessions. We will use our first session to evaluate if teletherapy is the right fit for your specific needs.
Can I start therapy just by filling out an online form?
No. Maryland regulations prohibit treating a client based solely on an online questionnaire. Every client must undergo a proper clinical evaluation to establish a diagnosis and ensure teletherapy is appropriate for them.
How do you verify my identity?
At the start of our first session, I am required by law to verify your identity. Please have a government-issued photo ID ready to show on camera.
Do I have to be in Maryland during our session?
Yes. To receive services from a Maryland-licensed social worker, you must be physically located within the state of Maryland at the time of our session. I will ask you to confirm your exact location at the start of every meeting.
What about my privacy?
I use Google Meet and Doxy.me, which are secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms that use encryption to prevent unauthorized access. I will also confirm that you are in a private space and identify any other individuals present who may be able to hear our conversation.
What if the technology fails?
If your sessions are billed your insurance as teletherapy, it is required that the video be on for the entirety of each session. Should a poor internet connection disconnect our call, you can expect to receive a new audiovisual link via text or email from me in order to continue the session.
Is my therapist licensed?
Yes. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-C licensed by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners. My license number is 18653.
